Talking to the future
As the digital resources we are creating (StreetStroll and OurFallen) have been determined as having important heritage value we have been asked to 'ensure' they will be available for future generations.
If they were physical books, it would be straightforward, we would send copies to local, regional and national libraries and the job would be done! Digital is more of a challenge but we think it is important to address, both for our projects and also for other resources.
We are suggesting the following
Website on a stick
Resources here and here suggest that we could create a USB Webserver that could simply be plugged into any pc in the future and that clicking on the home page would start the website.
British Library Archive
We could try to get our sites chosen by The British Library as part of their UK Web Archive initiative. This was set up to respond to the challenge of a digital black hole in the nations memory. It contains specially selected websites that represent different aspects of UK heritage on the web.
Create a Print Book
Lowestoft: Past, Present, Future - a change to send a message to Lowestoft 2103. Essays, stunning photographs and.. in the copies we send to local, regional and national libraries a special cutout containing the resources in digital form.
Ten Street Strolls, Ten Our Fallen or more
A chance to scale up, countywide and beyond the projects we have already made a success in Lowestoft. By working with the community and many schools we will ensure a legacy for future generations
